The best way to find out how to get a high mark is to look at a literary essay sample, but doing so without any advice can be overwhelming. How can you show insight? Do typos affect your score? What's a good way to maintain your article organized?

The sample literary essays which follow were written in response to the prompt that appears under. The rater commentary that follows every sample essay explains the response meets the criteria for that score.

Below you'll find selected examples of essays which "worked," as nominated by our admissions committee. These entries are distinct and unique to the respective writer; into learning more about the student past the transcripts and lists of actions provided in their 37, however, they each assisted the admissions reader.

Your aim in writing your literary essays is to produce a self-portrait that singles you out and puts you at your target schools before your competitors. To accomplish this, your essays will have to be compelling, thoughtful, and creative. Below you will find sample essays that serve as examples of literary essay excellence. As you read them, there are a number of important elements that you need to take note of: the distinct individuality of each composition, the clear theme, the engaging introduction, and the finish that ties the composition with each other, making it a whole, coherent unit.
